A Table Tennis Analysis Full of “N/A”: A Mirror for Data Discipline in Vietnamese Sports Journalism

A sports analysis report was just sent to me. It looked strange: no match title, no player name, no data, no tactical comment. Every section was marked “N/A.” For many editors, this would be a failed document. For me, it is a lesson in integrity. In Vietnamese sports journalism, we often rush to fill pages with names, scores, and dramatic stories. But if the first stage of research is empty, the only honest answer is to say that we do not know. The report refuses to invent a match or a player. It gives the information value a zero-star rating and warns against hallucinated analysis. This is a model for any sports writer. Being quiet when we have no verified facts is not weakness. It is discipline. I hope Vietnamese sports media will learn to say “not enough data” more often. That would create more trust than any brilliantly written guess.
